Guys who I wouldn't expect to step up like they have or stepping up HUGE. Danault has pretty much become a top-six center, Lehkonen is a beast (25-goal pace over an 82-game season) and Beaulieu has blossomed into a top-4 defenseman in Markov's absence averaging more than 25 minutes. Also helps that Pacioretty recovered from his broken foot in November and started producing like a top scorer.

Since Galchenyuk's injury started the injury parade:

    Pacioretty - 17 GP - 14 goals - 6 assists - 20 points (15 points in first 25 games)
    Radulov - 17 GP - 6 goals - 8 assists - 14 points (18 points in first 23 games)
    Byron - 16 GP - 5 goals - 8 assists - 13 points (12 points in first 25 games)
    Danault - 17 GP - 4 goals - 8 assists - 12 points (9 points in first 25 games)
    Plekanec - 17 GP - 4 goals - 8 assists - 12 points (7 points in first 25 games)
    Beaulieu - 15 GP - 1 goal - 9 assists - 10 points (6 points in first 21 games)
    Lehkonen - 17 GP - 7 goals - 3 assists - 10 points (4 points in first 16 games)
    Flynn - 17 GP - 5 goals - 2 assists - 7 points (2 points in first 14 games)
    Mitchell - 17 GP - 2 goals - 5 assists - 7 points (7 points in first 25 games)

Danault's made our needs go from 2nd-line center at the deadline to depth defensemen (Oduya) and MAYBE a bottom-six forward. Really looking forward to when we're all healthy again.

    Byron - Galchenyuk - Radulov
Pacioretty - Danault - Gallagher (pls wake up in the POs)
    Lehkonen - Plekanec - Shaw
    Flynn - Mitchell - McCarron

    Emelin - Weber
    Markov - Petry
    Beaulieu - Pateryn

As soon as they got Radulov I knew it was gonna get crazy. If I recall correctly, it was right after Subban - Weber? Byron's play has obviously been a huge surprise and Danault looks like he's just getting started. Lehkonen is amazing, I can't believe you guys have him AND Galchenyuk. Petry's playing the best hockey of his life, Beaulieu is a gem, and Weber and Markov just keep doing their thing. Then of course there's Price..

That said, you have to wonder if the play of Byron and Petry is sustainable. But it's not like they're major pieces.. some insurance at LW and I think an RD rather than an LD like Oduya would be preferrable. Imagine Shattenkirk as a rental?!

Price has been sucking since December 1 smh

yeah, Lehkonen is a beast. Beaulieu and Petry are great when they're on their game but also have some horrible lapses like tonight and in Winnipeg yesterday.

Desharnais gone this summer, re-sign Radulov and Chucky, gonna be good. We don't have the pieces for Shattenkirk and it's a high price for a rental.

Petry might be the most underrated d-man in the league. How is he such a footnote in your assessment?

I've come to expect good play from him since we acquired him. It doesn't surprise me.

What does surprise me is how bad he can look when he's not having a good game.

Well he leads your team in all-situation corsi/60 so I should hope you're willing to overlook those lapses. Classic Edmonton though; they gave up Petry, Schultz, Purcell, Nilsson, and Hall without getting a first for any of them bahahahahaha.

EDIT: Just to rub salt in Edmonton's wounds, I checked to see if this lineup would be cap compliant (it is with enough left over to fill out the fourth line and third pairing):

              Hall - McDavid - Eberle
              Yakupov - Draisaitl - Perron
              Pouliot - Nugent - Puljujarvi

              Sekera - Petry
              Klefbom - Schultz

              Dubnyk
              Nilsson

Petry makes some pretty bad lapses, especially recently. These past two games he's been really off even if his corsi is good (I haven't checked these past couple of games). Beaulieu's been having to make up for a lot of his mistakes, or they've both looked bad and just getting their assignments all off.

I probably trust Petry more than Weber in a lot of situations, though.

I've missed a lot of Habs games this season. This sentence really sticks out to me. Which situations?

All except on the power play, although Petry has a great shot too.

I will never pick Petry over Weber in any situation. Weber, is so well rounded. The only place Petry is better than Weber is Skating. He has a good shot, but he can't hit the net. Right now though, defensively Benn is probably the biggest surprise for me. Defensively sound. He just doesn't make any mistakes.

I'll take Subban over them all lirl

yeah, Benn's been great. He's playing Emelin off the team imo. Hopefully we can unload that contract in the summer.
