Bobby's was really good, and then it linked me to this one from Cam Ward:

This highlights the fact that on some nights, some guy on the ice is going through hell and no one knows...

Wow, Bobby's was incredibly emotional. Thanks for sharing. Cam Ward's was great too. This Player's Tribune is such a great idea. It's made me more of a hockey fan for sure. It's refreshing to see their human sides as opposed to the canned rinse-and-repeat answers we usually hear in interviews.

Interesting to get Fisher's perspective on the whole thing. The way it was reported at the time made it seem like Mike was very involved in selecting Nashville and being open to trade.

That was a horrific season, and when we traded Fisher, then Kelly soon after I believe, it was tough to watch.

                            Really?

It was five years ago so maybe there was some sort of evidence suggesting that Fisher played that role, but I never thought that before. I read the article and how it went down is completely like I envisioned it. The 'rebuild' (more like a small retool) had to happen, and letting not-so-great older players like Fisher or Kelly go had to happen. I always imagined that while it was clear to management that Fisher was going to go, they prioritized sending him to Nashville. It probably didn't hurt that Nashville offered up their No. 1 pick. You could say a million negative things about Melnyk and how Murray built the team, but it was very evident they cared about their players.

Unfortunately the 2011 Draft did very little for us. The picks we traded for Fisher and Kelly were used to pick Stefan Noesen and Shane Prince - two players who are no longer in the organization and probably won't end up having impactful careers in the NHL. We also picked Puempel and Zibanejad that draft. Ironically enough, Claesson and Pageau may go on to have decent careers.

I mean, it could be that's just my own opinion from the time that I'm remembering but I don't believe it was a shock to anyone that he went to Nashville of all places.

Bryan Murray definitely cared about the team. We were only a year or two removed from the team that went to the Cup final, and yet it was so bad. I think it was Paddock that got fired early that season and then there was talk that Murray was next...I'm so glad that he stuck around.

I'm pretty sure I remember it being a foregone conclusion that Fisher was going to end up in Nashville. I was just trying to pretend to myself that it wasn't going to happen. Of course it happened. Right Owen?
