  • Mark Reeds passes away at age 55

Senators assistant coach Mark Reeds has passed away at 55 from cancer. Speculation began last spring when Reeds had to take time off for personal reasons. Dave Cameron asked for everyone to pray for Reeds a few weeks back, saying he was in quite the battle.

Just another inspiration for the Sens to make a run

    Do it for Bryan
    Do it for Mark

Do we know what type of cancer it was? 55 is relatively young...

I don't think that information was made public. I guess he's been battling it for a few years now. He was hospitalized with pneumonia and passed away this morning.

Murray said Reeds last met with the team 10 days ago. He wished them all great luck and said, "Let's win it all." Murray also said a lot of the young players in particular are taking the news very hard.

Dave Cameron just spoke to the media for the first time. Holding back tears (and breaking down a couple times), he said, "When Mark got sick, we had a heavy heart. And now it's broke."

He also said the Sens winning games was huge for Mark.

What terrible news. The health issues with management are really depressing :( RIP and thoughts are with his loved ones.

Dave Cameron's press conference is really hard to watch. If anyone wants to check it out, it's on the Sens website.

Yeah, it really was heart wrenching. You can tell they were close. I found myself getting choked up at Murray's too. I also couldn't help finding the media to be a bit insensitive. They keep making the guys repeat the same emotions and not once do any of them open with a simple "my condolences Bryan/Dave/Marc/Erik".

Just saw a few clips on TSN - yeah that's really tough to watch. The media don't care other than it's a "storyline" to the series.

                          It's shameful.
