  • NFL: Deflategate

I'm sure everyone knows about the Deflategate situation in New England. In the AFC Championship game this season against the Colts, the Patriots were accused of using deflated footballs which were easier to catch. Of course everyone in the Patriots organization denied knowing about it, but an investigation took place, and the results are in.

    - Tom Brady has been suspended four games
    - Patriots lose a 1st round pick in 2016, 4th round pick in 2017
    - Patriots fined $1M for the incident

What is everyones opinion on this? Keep in mind, it was the Patriots who were involved in the Spygate in 2007, when they were caught filming coaching gestures.

Tom Brady has been suspended four games for his role in the "Deflategate" scandal. The New England Patriots were also fined $1 million and will lose a first round draft pick in 2016 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2017.

Wasn't Spygate disproven? Anyways, the Colts should get the picks. It does seem kind of arbitrary to just say 4 games, $1M, a 1st, and a 4th. How was it decided I wonder.

The Spygate was real - Belichick got fined $500,000, the Patriots got fined $250,000 and they lost their first round pick in 2008.

                It would make sense.

For me, this definitely makes me think less of Tom Brady as an athlete

Brady and the Patriots are launching an appeal but apparently Roger Goodell is the person who will hear the appeal, and not an independent person as the Patriots had hoped for..

Yikes, that's a bad decision on both ends of the spectrum.

I guess technically I knew they could do this, but I thought they turned the page on this. It's been a full year.
