  • Senators re-sign Andrew Hammond (3 yrs/$1.35M AAV)

The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today the club has agreed to terms with goaltender Andrew Hammond on a three-year contract extension which will run through the end of the 2017-18 National Hockey League season. The average annual value of the contract is $1.35 million ($1.2M, $1.35M, $1.5M).
Hammond, 27, earned a record of 20-1-2 in 24 games with the Senators last season, posting a 1.79 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage, while recording three shutout victories.

I think the key here is term - don't know if another team would have wanted 3 years. Essentially he gave up potential money for a stable contract.

Yeah. With the salary being so cheap, I don't see the term being an issue. Worst comes to worst you buy him out, right?

I'm more concerned with who we're moving. Are the Sens really about to give up on Lehner? Or are they going to throw us into the season with Hammond/Lehner as our tandem? I'd bet it's going to be the former, especially after signing Matt O'Connor.

Also an interesting note ... Hammond just said he wasn't given a no-trade clause, and he got no guarantee another goalie would be moved. Although I can't see Murray doing a sign and trade, the Sens should handle their assets as best as possible here.

This is great news. I'm very curious to see what happens. I think it's almost a given now that they move Lehner.

Despite what the Sens management has said about the goaltending, I'm betting that this is what will be done.
