  • O'Reilly extended 7 years

The Buffalo Sabres have made newly acquired forward Ryan O'Reilly their highest-paid player by signing him to a $52.5 million, seven-year contract extension on Friday.

The Buffalo Sabres signed newly acquired forward Ryan O'Reilly to a seven-year contract extension worth $52.5 million. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports O'Reilly will make $1 million in salary every year with the rest spread out in signing bonuses paid each July 1.

He's a great player. Might be too much on another team, but it shouldn't be too much of a handicap by the time Buffalo really needs the space.

The contract is $1M salary every year, with signing bonuses making up the bulk of the salary he'll be making. The first year is 10 (!!) million.

Wow, right after signing that contract. Great influence on the young guys already!

How do you ram a Tim Hortons with your truck, while sober? With the breathalyzer it seems open and shut to me.

It's a first offence and he's rich and famous. He'll get off with a slap on the wrist. Worst case scenario is some community service and a temporarily suspended license while an ignition interlock device is installed on his vehicle. Plus he'll pay a fine that would be big to any of us but an absolute joke to him.

For a normal person, a DUI would mean restrictions on travel between Canada and the US. No such restrictions here, I'm guessing...

Yep, I'm willing to bet that he gets off without any kind of travel restriction. It's amazing how often and how blatantly the law really IS applied differently to different segments of society and what precious little anyone really does to acknowledge, let alone combat it.

I definitely had a similar thought. Buffalo was making such great moves, but these two I feel are going to be thorns in their side.
