  • Biron retires

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6876 ... l:topheads

Biron had been placed on waivers by the team last week after appearing in two games this season and going 0-1-0 with a 7.61 goals-against average and .763 save percentage. After clearing waivers, Biron could have been assigned to the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolfpack, but he elected instead to call it a career.

Perennial backup but he had a few good starter roles, particularly in Philadelphia. Didn't realise he was 36 though, so good timing I suppose.

I feel like Biron could still have been a serviceable backup for an NHL club. It's too bad his career has to end with a demotion.

Was one of the better starters for Philly, and also kept the crease warm for Ryan Miller between him and Hasek.

Kinda like Alex Auld - seems like he would be a good backup but for whatever reason just didn't have that extra gear.

I always liked Biron. I wish he would have been the backup in Montreal when we signed Budaj. The signing wasn't bad, but I was leaning towards Biron at that time.
