I think the captain of the winning team will probably donate the $1M to a charity.

It's not for me, but they are clearly trying.

I don't think $1M spread between all the players is real motivation for players already making a lot more. The problem with these things is that they are clearly a corporate exercise. Nothing's on the line. And you can't "manufacture" skin in the game.

I think this is one of those rare times that the NHL looks a little bit wiser than the other three major leagues. I like to see hockey actively trying to resurrect its all-star weekend.

The MLB has made insignificant tweaks to the home run derby and has their stupid home field advantage rule that everyone hates. So baseball is a wash. I know some people get hyped about the slam dunk contest but I've never heard anyone talk about the actual NBA all-star game. Let's not even talk about the pro bowl.

So good on the NHL for making an effort. I personally don't care and won't watch and will only get mad when Karlsson is the lone Senator on the roster representing Ottawa. But if this can pique the interest of a few fans who would otherwise have tuned out then I'd say good on the NHL for admitting that the all-star game is boring and needs a kick in the dick.

    All-Star Game to take 3-on-3, division-based format

What do you guys think about this? I think it's pretty cool. I might actually watch the game now.
