  • Game 66 @ Maple Leafs

Dion's first game back in Toronto. This is one of those games Ottawa should win.. something that's proven to be ironically worrisome with this team lately.

I actually got free tickets to this game and went. Sens didn't play great, but it was fun. There was a lot more Sens fans than you'd think ... You'd even hear some Go Sens Go chants.

Sens just lost 2-1 to the Stars, though. The loss pretty much sealed off any hope of a miracle run this year (the extremely slim chance coming into this game). The Sens can only afford one loss, pretty much, and that's not going to happen. I thought we played a good game, actually. It was really frustrating to see the Stars score on a power play called as tripping because Seguin tried to dodge a Smith hit. And then Lazar scored in the third period, although after a coach's challenge by Lindy Ruff it was turned back due to offside on Hoffman.

This weekend series was really indicative of the whole season. I didn't watch the Toronto game but the box score indicated that Ottawa got out-possessed badly and still won. Then against Dallas they played a tight game and lost. All year they've only succeeded when they cheat the system. They lose a lot of game when they "play the right way." PDO is a real double-edged sword like that.

It will be interesting to see what this team does in the off-season. I bet we'll sit on this exact same team we've had for the past 3 years (take and give a couple players), a team that missed the playoffs two out of three of those years and the year they did make it in, went 23-3-3 off a backup goalies .940SV%.

I would also put money on this. I would not put money on an interesting offseason. Unless losing hair over the Hoffman negotiations qualifies as interesting. Ceci extension will be automatic and gratuitous at the very least. I just pray this team cuts bait on Chiasson. PW will be a shame to walk but 2.7M is ridiculous based on his total output. My prayer is for another quantity for quality trade but I won't be holding my breath. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2016-2017 Ottawa Senators!

Ottawa is just not a destination for free agents. Other than MacArthur, we really haven't done well there (remember Latendresse?). Who's giving us anything of value for Chiasson and/or Wiercioch? PW was replaced by Mike F***ing KOSTKA yesterday - huge value clearly.

Word is that PW is banged up but I find that hard to believe after he played one game in how long? Ottawa's internal budget also means no free agents. I admire Bryan Murray's efforts to win without buying it but you can't ice a losing roster perennially and expect the results to miraculously change.

Yeah, PW is banged up just like Cowen had "hip soreness" when he was traded to the Leafs.
