OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators (@Senators) general manager Pierre Dorion announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Cody Ceci to a two-year contract which will run through the end of the 2017-18 National Hockey League season. The average annual value of the contract is $2.8 million ($2.25M, $3.35M).

Ceci, 22, established new NHL career highs in goals (10), points (26) and penalty minutes (18) while matching his career high for assists (16) over 75 games with the Senators during the 2015-16 season. Upon the conclusion of the season, he also skated with Team Canada at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Moscow/St. Petersburg, Russia. In 10 games with Team Canada, he scored one goal and earned five assists while helping the team to a gold medal.

An Ottawa native, Ceci has registered 56 points (18 goals, 38 assists) and 38 penalty minutes over 205 NHL games, all of which have occurred with the Senators. He also has two assists over six NHL playoff games.

The Senators’ first-round pick (15th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft, Ceci spent three-plus seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s, before compelting his major junior career with the Owen Sound Attack. He began his professional career with the Binghamton Senators in 2013-14 before being recalled to the NHL for the first time on Dec. 12, 2013.

And with this news, it appears the Sens off-season is over and they are ready to start their season. Completely overhauled the coaching staff, brought in Chris Kelly, re-signed Hoffman to term and got Ceci locked up for the short-term.

Nice. He will still be a RFA when this deal expires as well.
