The Stars are another team I find interesting right now. Tons of potential there, but so much of it is long-shot type potential. Seguin clearly has off-ice attitude issues, but plenty of top young players do and get over them. His skill level is off the charts. Chiasson is already a sure bet to be a good NHL player, but how good? He scored all kinds of goals while he was allowed to fly under the radar, but when he's put on a top line and teams are game-planning against him, he's often been completely shut down. Not unusual for young players, but it will be interesting to just what kind of player he ends up being. If he can play against top d-pairs night after night he could be a 30-40 goal scorer, but if he only scores most of his goals against 2nd and 3erd pairings, he'll still make for a good 20-25 goal secondary scorer.
Nichushkin is another very interesting one. His skill level is extremely high, but can he adapt to the NHL style? Or will he be unable to play a 200-foot game and end up in the KHL in a few years?
What do people think of Brendan Dillon? The next Dan Girardi? An Undrafted pure defensive defenseman, he could end up being a great replacement for Robidas.
Goligoski also needs to start showing some semblance of the potential they traded James Neal and Niskanen for. That trade is starting to look like an absolute hosing right now.
So yeah, they could either develop into a Stanley Cup contender within a couple years, or they could be another team like Edmonton or Colorado that just suck year after and can't seem to figure it out.
