  • Rumour: Senators looking to deal Hammond

The Senators suddenly have a logjam in goal and Andrew Hammond could be the odd man out....

The Ottawa Senators could part ways with goaltender Andrew Hammond. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports the Senators are testing the 28 year old's market value.

Hammond began the season in his usual role backing up starter Craig Anderson, but was sidelined by a groin injury on Oct. 28. With Anderson's wife's recent cancer diagnosis requiring he take some time off, the Senators acquired Mike Condon from the Pittsburgh Penguins to boost their goaltending depth. Condon, 26, looked sharp backstopping the Sens to recent victories over the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres.

So we get 3 goalies because Andy needs time away, and as soon as we have 3 goalies ready to play we turf Hammond? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Also, what possible market value does Hammond have right now? He's been pretty bad in 2 starts - not really enough to form a good opinion in any case.

Yeah, while I do think Hammond will be the odd man out, I didn't think they would test the market for his value as soon as he was healthy. I thought maybe around trade deadline, they would look around...or wait till they know for a fact that Anderson is back full time....

      To be continued I guess....

Yeah I don't see the logic either. It's just a matter of time before someone gets injured again and then we're back where we started. I have no problem with the team carrying three goalies. I don't think anyone would complain about having a combination of Hammond, Claesson, and MacArthur watching from the pressbox (health considered). This team doesn't seem too keen on carrying skaters who aren't going to play on a nightly basis so it's not like there's a roster crunch.

Agreed with all of you. We acquired Condon to have three goalies because of Anderson's situation. I'd keep Hammond around, at least for the season or until the trade deadline.

                  Sens place Hammond on waivers.

Guess they really want to save that money.

Rough situation. It's all about nickels and dimes to the front office right now.
