  • Game 42 - Senators @ Blues

Sens turning it up right now.. 3-1 heading into the final minutes of the 2nd.

Hard to not be happy with that win. 6-4 was the final. Stone had two goals, Hoffman had two goals and Pageau and Ryan also got one each. Better yet, the Sens walked out of St Louis with 2 points.

Next games are two against Columbus and a game against Toronto.

Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman are really good at hockey.

Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman should play together more. Hoffman's being wasted playing with Pageau. And yet, I can't really complain about Smith with Brassard either, except to say that Zack needs some shooting lessons!

I'm really on the fence about this one. My gut says to keep the top line loaded with Hoffman and Stone but you can't argue with the results Boucher has gotten with Stone, Turris, and Hoffman each boosting individual lines. Stone/Brassard are possession monsters so they'll bring Smith with them even if Zack can't hit the broad side of a barn some nights. Turris/Dzingel have been able to use their abilities to get Bobby Ryan somewhat back to scoring. And Hoffman is using some sort of hack to make Pyatt look like an NHL player. I don't doubt Pageau's ability to keep up with Hoffman but man can you imagine if 68-44 had a legit right winger? The fourth line is maybe the worst thing I've ever seen. Thx u Neil and Kelly for your service in the community tho.

At least Kelly does a decent job killing penalties. Neil and Lazar are pretty well useless. Lazar has zero points to date and has, to my recollection, not looked remotely close to ever scoring one this year?

What's the record for most games played as a forward with zero points?

The bottom six started the year strong but since game ~10 have really not been that great. Hopefully Kelly and Neil retire after this season.

I support Smith in the top six with Mark Stone over Hoffman. Weird to say, but I feel like it creates better results. Smith is pretty useless without Stone (anyone remember that huge slump he had?), while Hoffman will still pick up good results with anyone because of his speed and shot. There are some players (such as Kessel) who end up with the same amount of goals/points with pretty much anyone. He's still a beast for our first unit powerplay and will pick up some even strength goals along the way.

Lazar is such a disappointment. He has absolutely no offensive game and has never shown he will in the NHL. Heck, even at the WJC and in the AHL he didn't look that great. He looked good in the Memorial Cup for the Oil Kings but never really looked like a threat offensively. According to McKenzie he's trade bait for the Sens, but I imagine the market isn't too great for him.

Perhaps Owen could shed some light on his advanced stats. Personally, I'm not even impressed by his defensive game but that could just be me focusing on the bad.

There is no stat out there that does him any favours. A lot of metrics have him BELOW Neil and Kelly. He's fifteen years younger than those guys and manages to be less useful.

Here are the top five forwards by minutes with no points for this season:

                  Andrew Desjardins 263
                  Jordin Tootoo 223
                  Curtis Lazar 196
                  Nic Deslauriers 173
                  Andy Andreoff 168

Wow, that's a pretty damning list. Who on earth is gonna trade for that? He's not even that great defensively if you ask me.

On-ice goals for (minimum 180 minutes) among forwards for all situations:

                      Curtis Lazar 3
                      Cody McLeod 3
                      Chris Neil 3
                      Michael Sgarbossa 2
                      Jordin Tootoo 1
