  • Game 47 - vs Flames

Ottawa lost the game 3-2 in overtime. They trailed 2-0 to start the third.

    - Wingels didn't really impress me. He scored a goal, which was great, but he made a lot of mistakes and was more noticeable in a bad way than a good way to me. Not really worried about this going forward, but do hope he can be a heart and soul energy guy for the team.

    - Impressive third period to get a point. Calgary was definitely playing a motivated game, and were giving the Sens fits with how tight of a defensive game they were playing. Glad the Sens were able to squeeze through and pick up a point.

    - Although Calgary has been struggling of late, this officially marks the end of the Senators "two months from hell". They played a lot of tough teams and have a much easier schedule coming up (at least opponent wise). However, the Sens will need to improve their play against the middle-of-the-pack teams if they want to secure a playoff spot.

    - Honestly, I'm not looking down. It's easy to get worried about the teams behind us. The Sens just need to do their part - finish with the necessary ~95 points and they'll make the playoffs. But I'd like to see them take a shot at the Habs for first in the Atlantic. Right now they are seven points back with three games in hand.

I missed the game. Glad we managed to get a point at least. I'll give Wingels at least a few games - he needs to learn THE SYSTEM.

Claesson and Wideman are good at hockey.

        1. Wingels didn't play superb hockey but he was still a HUGE improvement over giving Neil these minutes. Lazar has essentially had the same usage as Wingels got last night, and they even played together for a while. It took him one game to threaten scoring (and, by some luck admittedly, actually score) where Lazar has lacked any kind of offensive ability.

        2. The commentators touched on it - Calgary were plagiarizing THE SYSTEM, especially in the third defending a 2 goal lead. It's important that Ottawa continue to pick up points even if they cannot win every night.

        3. I'm all for an easier schedule, and hopefully it looks like Andy's back very soon too. But you raise a very good point - the Sens have struggled against middle-pack teams while excelling against the tough challenges. We cannot afford to become complacent.

        4. Fully agree, Ottawa has done the hard work to be in this position half way through the season. So if they win the games they should, then don't need to worry about chasing down a spot. Toronto's young - they could keep it going or they could collapse like every year with about 30 games to go. Montreal looks vulnerable. Boston's also in trouble. There's nothing stopping Ottawa taking this division if they play to their strengths and continue to trust and execute THE SYSTEM.

I agree about Wingels. He's still better than Neil/Lazar
