  • Erat asks for a trade

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=437479

Martin Erat's days with the Washington Capitals appear to be numbered, as TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the veteran winger has asked the team for a trade.

The Capitals acquired Erat and centre Michael Latta from the Nashville Predators at last season's trade deadline in exchange for forward Filip Forsberg.

According to LeBrun, this is actually the second time this season that Erat has spoken to management about being dealt. Erat originally asked for a trade about a week into the season, but the matter soon faded away until he went into GM George McPhee's office again this past weekend.

Y'know, I often employed Erat on my fantasy team over the past few years, and he was a good player...I just don't know what he has left? You've gotta score more than 0 goals in 20+ games, right?

He wants to be traded because he's not being given time on ice and when he is, it's defensive minutes more than offensive minutes. He's not given the opportunity, he says. He asked for a trade in the first week of the season and now doing so again, and the Caps will work on a deal for him.

Terrible trade for the Caps initially. Wow.

It was terrible even when there was a chance Erat would stay.

They're going to get fleeced on a return for him too...

They traded Varlamov for the pick that became Forsberg... I haven't decided if that's a good or a bad thing.
