Was it a salary dump? Did Dorion actually try to make a deal to keep him? Couldn't match what Dallas traded? :Flush:

I don't know, but with the apparent non-action whatsoever on the Methot front, and the rumours that they're shopping Phaneuf, there must be some kind of plan..

        Right?

Well, from what I'm reading this morning..the Sens got screwed by McPhee...

@PierreVLeBrun: Stars get Methot for much less than what Sens would've had to pay. WATCH: http://fw.to/On2UtCi

            More like:
            1. Ottawa offers something decent that isn't a first round pick + roster player
            2. Vegas gambles (hehe) they can get much better on open market and selects Methot
            3. Vegas undercuts themselves by picking approximately 30 defensemen, so every team knows they are about to flood the market
            4. Montreal are told to screw themselves by Methot
            5. Vegas panic-sells to someone actually willing to offer anything

As much as losing Methot sucks, number 4 just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling every time I think about it.

OK but why wasn't Ottawa willing to offer something?

Who says Ottawa was asked the second time around?

They shouldn't have had to be asked; Dorion should have been blowing up McPhee's phone since the draft.

Well, at 1st, it seemed like Ottawa couldn't try to get him back until January 2018. That was cleared out within a few days of the exp draft. From that point on, I wonder what really happened.

Did the other GMs thought it was a given he would return to Ottawa or he was fair games as soon as he was picked up by McPhee? Glad he refused to discuss with Mtl, makes me all fuzzy inside lolll

I also dislike how Dorion dealt with Phaneuf in that process. I have a feeling the moment Phaneuf refused to waive, it was clear Methot wouldn't be protected. :violin:

Anyway, now its done, let's see how it all turns out....
