  • Senators Pre-Season

I figured I'd make one thread for the entire pre-season as probably isn't a ton of interest like the regular season.

Sens won their first pre-season game at the CTC. 6-2 win over the Leafs. Hoffman had two goals, Ceci had a beauty. Chabot led the team in TOI. And White blocked a shot at the end of the game that appeared to hurt him.

Did you watch the game Brandon? I'm very curious to know how Chabot played.

I missed the first period and kind of watched the second and third period. To me, he looks NHL ready and looks like he's going to be very good, very quickly.

I didn't want to get too hyped on Chabot but he bossed proceedings at times out there. Very much in the vein of Erik Karlsson, which makes me excited to see what Chabot can learn from him.

Good night also for Jaros I thought. Wouldn't be surprised if he's called up at some point.

It's very early but I got the impression that Boucher/coaching staff has already done a great job of teaching "the system" to all the guys. They were organized for the most part both defending the neutral zone and exiting their own zone. Andy didn't have much to do first half but did it well.

In contrast, Babcock came out and admitted his team needed a lot of work in the neutral zone in particular. Matthews and Nylander were pretty good, which I'm sure shocks nobody at this point.

Sens did get caught running around a few times like they did last year, especially towards the end of the game. So work to be done, but all in all a good first game for what that's worth.

Karlsson is going to age well. His skating is a huge part of his game, and that will decline, but he's one of the smartest players I've seen play. Chabot and Karlsson on the same blue line will be deadly.

Some lucky bounces last night but that's a huge effort for essentially the B-Sens squad to beat a Leafs team that had several NHL players dressed. To be fair, the Leafs carried most of the play in the third period but Ottawa scored with a player out of the penalty box on a breakaway. As I'm sure will happen plenty this year, we essentially collapsed hard back to the net after that, but the defense held up.

Hogberg looks pretty close to being NHL ready. Reinhart had a solid game too.

And if you haven't seen it yet, I strongly suggest you look up the 2 on 0 chance Nate Thompson and Max McCormick got last night...instant classic!
