  • Sens cut the roster to 23 players

The Sens made their final roster moves prior to the first game of the season. They cut Thomas Chabot and Ben Harpur, sending them to AHL affiliate Belleville. Max McCormick was placed on waivers.

Logan Brown and surprise Alex Formenton made the team, although that doesn't guarantee any of them will actually play minutes with the Sens.

Wow. I'm surprised Chabot didn't at least get the 9 games. I suppose the reasoning is that he's better off playing big minutes in Belleville as opposed to riding the pine. The Sens are carrying 4 LD with Phaneuf, Borowiecki, Oduya, and Claesson.

With Brassard, Dzingel, McArthur, and White all out, I wouldn't be surprised to see Brown and Formenton getting some minutes. I'm still pretty bummed that Stalberg is gone.

I think a lot of it had to do with the final pre-season game, where Chabot was a team-worst -5. Boucher said he's not ready yet.

Also, regarding Chabot, the 9 game thing isn't really that relevant for players old enough to play AHL. For junior players, they get the 9 games then go back to junior and are there for the year. If they go to the AHL then can be recalled at any time. Remember, Karlsson was about his age when he started his first year in North America in the AHL, and only lasted about 10 games there.
