    Goal Horn thread?

    Goal Horn thread.

Revealing myself to be a true nerd here but I am partial to certain horns over others. Maybe some bias, but I think the Sens have one of the better horns in the league, followed up by some of the worst music. Really? Blur? After every goal? Feels like I lose brain cells each time.

I cannot stand LA and Montreal's horns which instead sound like trains. Neither team is especially linked to trains. It doesn't make sense. It also bothers me that Boston and Toronto have very similar, generic horns.

Meanwhile, when you go west you often get more creative. Phoenix used to have a coyote howl when they scored. LOVE the Columbus cannon, great tie in. Anaheim has one that is extremely deep, almost foghorn-like.

Also, whatever happened to those horns that sounded like a police siren/air raid? No one seems to do that anymore? I think Washington was the last team to have one?

Pick the team that scored and celebrate!

The Sharks are on the really low frequency end of the spectrum. Nashville's is gloriously obnoxious. Mostly they all sound alike hahaha

The best thing on that site is the song that plays after the Whalers' horn!

          Anaheim - terrible.
Arizona - too long. And it should still be a howl. A really fuckin' awesome howl.
Boston - bombs are falling on the city.
Buffalo - too long but otherwise decent.
Calgary - tell your kid to stop holding down the keys on my organ.
          Carolina - pretty good.
          Chicago - not terrible.
          Colorado - WTF
          Columbus - not terrible.
Dallas - OK I guess, until that horrendous song starts.
Detroit - probably what the alien invasion will sound like.
Edmonton - perfect for 4-5 seconds. Way too long in real life.

I don't feel like listening to any more right now.

That's a solid effort. I'm sure they all do start to sound alike one after the other.

Also a terrible horn - Winnipeg. Man does that thing grate!

I don't like 'full' sounding goal horns. I like Montreal's because it blends in well with the crowd noise and it all sounds really good to me. The only 'full' horn I like is Anaheim's - I think their horn + song work well together. It's the same with music they play after goals or when the team is coming out to the ice.

I thought Alfie's song, that U2 remix, sounded really good with the crowd volume. I can remember two instances where the combination gave me goosebumps:

First, Game 6 vs Pittsburgh in 2010, when Alfie scored to make it 3-0 Sens. The crowd was going nuts, the horn ends and the song plays. It's not a song that adds heavy bass/guitar, it just kind of compliments the crowd noise at that point.

Secondly, when his kids skated with the flag in Game 6 vs the Rangers in 2012. An Ottawa tradition I really love - when the kid comes onto the ice with the Sens flag and starts doing laps. It gets the crowd super hyped up in the playoffs. You know the team is preparing to take the ice. After the Game 4 win, and the Sens had won Game 5 at MSG, it was the hottest ticket of the season as the Sens tried to eliminate the #1 seeded Rangers as the complete underdogs. It was cool to see it was Alfie's kids and it was Alfie's song, and the crowd was super loud and the song, again, complimented it as the team was about to take the ice. It was also Alfie's first game back from his concussion.

Re: U2, I'm pretty sure it was based on Beautiful Day which is just a good song all around and really fits the euphoric feeling of scoring a big goal. Unlike, say "Woohoo" sung 500 times...

And YES! Even at home watching the kids come out that's always like - OK, prepare yourself for Senators hockey.
