McDonagh brings in a nice haul: Hajek, Holden, Namestikov, 1st and 2nd.

Karlsson return could be incredible in the summer

Good return yes, but Yzerman also makes out really well there, losing none of his blue chip prospects and adding JT Miller as well.

It's hard to pick a most improved here. On paper Tampa looks great, but I think Namestnikov was really important to that team and I wouldn't predict them to win a series against Pittsburgh. San Jose added a significant piece in Kane, but who knows what kind of problems that might come with. Winnipeg's addition of Stastny fits nicely into a pretty solid top-nine:

                  Connor - Scheifele - Wheeler
                  Ehlers - Stastny - Laine
                  Lowry - Little - Armia

You have to think Tampa, for sure. Namestnikov is a good piece, yeah, but Miller pretty much replaces him. He played with some seriously elite players in Stamkos and Kucherov. Miller has 40 points this season on the Rangers and had 56 last season. And then you add McDonagh, a proven guy that can log big minutes on extended playoff runs (26:49 ATOI during the 2012 playoffs as a pretty young guy). He also fills a need by lowering their high-danger shot attempts against.

San Jose...meh. Kane is what he is - a decent goal scorer that brings a physical game and very little else. He's been in the league since 2009, and his top three seasons are the following: 57pts (30g), 43pts (28g), 43pts (19g). Definitely not a useless player, but also a guy that probably gets too much hype over his 30 goal season and draft position. Plus, he seems like one of the worst locker room cancers in the league.

Stastny is another guy I wouldn't write home about. I think it's a better pickup than Kane, but he's not the player he once was. With that being said, he's a great depth piece, especially as someone who can move up the lineup with injuries. I just don't find him to have a McDonagh type of impact. The Jets should have upped their offer and acquired Brassard.

See, I looked at this and thought "that's what Tampa was willing to give us for Karlsson". And when Dorion (rightly) stood firm, they just moved that package to NYR instead.

If we move Karlsson, I guarantee no one will be happy about the return. Spezza was the last "star" guy we moved and we got fleeced.
