That return is abysmal considering what San Jose got minutes afterwards. Had to be done though. Imagine what that would have been like if he was still in Ottawa on draft day?

Bergman is a former second round pick who’s a few years into his development. Boedker isn’t of much value, but scored 35+ points last season for the Sharks.
I probably would have taken the picks, but value wise they seem pretty even, no?
Boedker is a downgrade on Hoffman in terms of scoring. I don't know Bergman well but I read he was in the ECHL last year?
I guess this comes down to how you want to position this season. To me it feels like our brief window has slammed shut now Hoffman is moved on. Karlsson, Stone and Duchene are all up for renewals in the near future and who's to say how many stick around?
Dorion HAS to get replacement players if he is seriously trying to compete now. Our AHL depth chart is not great for immediate impacts. A few young guys with promise but if you play them all year there will be struggles. Then there's the matter of the disappearing first rounder next year.
I think the better longer term return was the picks but there's no way of knowing who will be drafted with them. Perhaps being too defeatist this early in the year is no good for the owner. How many people will show up to the home opener if they also lose Karlsson? That's gonna be a ROUGH building atmosphere...

Bergman was playing in the AHL for the past three seasons. Boedker is a downgrade, but if we're comparing the return San Jose got to the return Ottawa got, I'd say they're pretty even value wise.
The Sens are in a "compete now" mode. I put it in quotations as that's what ownership and management will tell fans as they downgrade the team in every way possible. In my opinion, the window is more than slammed shut. Everything that could have gone wrong has gone very wrong.
Very interesting indeed. I just found out yesterday the Rangers dropped him early on in junior...not a good sign for a local kid to get dropped like that surely.

There's no reason for the Sens to be in a "compete now" mode having traded Hoffman and with no guarantees on Karlsson's future? I know you agree with me...just madness that the Sens are even pretending otherwise?
Go look at Josh's projected line up in the other thread. It's brutal, no two ways about it.

Honestly, it's extremely insulting hearing Dorion/Melnyk lie to the fanbase.
Rebuilding the team cannot be done because Melnyk knows tickets will sell even less, we don't have a first round pick, and we don't have the staff to be able to do it properly. So, instead, the team is going to cut costs like they are rebuilding, and pretend they have a good team.
