  • Cogliano extended 4 years/$12M

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Andrew Cogliano already never leaves the Ducks' lineup, and the speedy forward's new contract extension will keep him in Anaheim for four more years.

Cogliano agreed to a $12 million extension through the 2017-18 season with the Ducks on Saturday.

        Another Oilers mistake.

If the Ducks land a bonafide first line left-winger and add a solid top-two pairing defenseman with a right shot, they would be an easy favorite to win the Cup.

            Time to trade for Pronger.

              It's a good contract.

Not a big fan of Cogliano, honestly. He's a tweener in every sense of the word. I can't see him playing an important role in a Cup winning team. You want your second line centre to be scoring around 55+ points, and he's shown to capability of doing that. Well, maybe his rookie year, but he hasn't been able to recapture that magic. I'm not sure how he fits in a bottom six. Every time I've watched him play, he wasn't a standout defensively. He's very quick, I'll give him that. But he's a small player and average at best defensively.

Again, I think it's a good deal. He's actually better than a lot of third liners. But I don't know how he'd fit in on a team making a run. Obviously the Ducks are doing it now, so we'll see what happens in the playoffs.

I still can't understand how Anaheim are a cup contender again. They didn't even rebuild yet they lost most of the 2007 team. :/

Well, they lost McDonald, Niedermayer, Kunitz, and Pronger, but they still have Selanne, Getzlaf, Perry, Penner, and Beauchemin. McDonald and Niedermayer didn't net returns that still play for the Ducks, but Kunitz was traded for Ryan Whitney who was then traded for Lubomir Visnovsky who was in turn traded for the draft pick that got the Ducks prospect Nick Sorensen. The Pronger trade actually ended being responsible for Anaheim having all of Luca Sbisa, Emerson Etem, and Kyle Palmieri (as well as getting Beauchemin back later on via Lupul). So some savvy trading definitely plays a part in it.

The Progner trade then is the only one directly affecting their play right now. They traded Ryan away too, what is this sorcery?

Awwww, Cogliano had points in back to back games after that re-signing, but wasn't able to register any last night. Not a Ducks fan in any sense of the word, but it would have been cool to see him keep up a streak after signing a deal.

The Ducks don't seem spectacular on paper, but it's crazy how good of a team they are. Imagine being a season ticket holder there. They haven't lost a home game in regulation yet, and lead the league in road wins.
