This is just so messed up. We were going to WIN the Stanley Cup like 2 years ago. There's nobody left?!

Has anyone been able to find the exact trade, including all conditions on the picks? Now that more information has come out, it sounds like maybe the return could be at least a little better than originally thought. As Jasmine mentioned, there is a conditional first rounder if he ends up in the Eastern conference (I believe only if that occurs this season). All that really seems to do is handcuff San Jose a bit if they decide to trade him as a rental at the deadline.
The one sure first rounder could be this year or next year, based on whether the Sharks make the playoffs. If they miss, then it is for this year, but assuming they won't, then it will be next year. Kinda clever since by then Karlsson may well leave before 2020 and the Sharks aging roster could have the franchise falling into their own rebuild by then.
Then there is another conditional pick, which is the one I am completely confused about. The Ottawa Sun reports it as "a second rounder if the Sharks re-sign Karlsson, which can turn into a first if they make the Cup finals next spring". What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Them making the cup finals could very well happen before they would re-sign him. Do both conditions have to be met for it to become a first then? If they make the finals but don't re-sign him, it is nothing? Very shoddy reporting by Don Brennan here.
Anyway, I am waiting for it to come on prosportstransactions. They always have the full trade with all the details on the conditions, but does anybody know where else to find it in the meantime?Comment

I've been reading around, and it really sounds like the Sharks have to first re-sign Karlsson for the conditional second rounder to kick in, regardless of whether the Sharks make the finals. And then only once that condition is activated does the conditional first come into play. So it is a condition upon a condition. Not a fan of that.Comment
