Yikes that's a lot of money. Hell of a player, but the Leafs now have 33 million in cap committed to three players.

I could see the Leafs really doing some damage this season though. All indications statistically show that Nylander created a lot of chances last year and just had some back luck; he should have a big year. Kapanen looks primed for a breakout.

Dubas completely rebuilt the defense over the past six months. Off the top of my head I can't think of a better top three in the league right now than Rielly, Barrie, Muzzin. Ceci will finally be slotted correctly as the fourth defenseman, and Dermott is a high-end penalty killer.

Man, I think you’re right about their top-three D being the best in the league. And Ceci will probably surprise in a more suitable role. He ate a lot more minutes than he’ll see this season.

Next best for me is probably an underrated trio of Dumba - Spurgeon - Suter.

Yeah that's a hell of a trio in Minnesota. Can't imagine Suter has many good years left though. Nashville's Josi-Ekholm-Ellis would be the group I'd put up against Toronto's. Dallas' Klingberg-Heiskanen-Lindell could be in the mix as early as this season. Maybe Gostisbehere, Sanheim, Provorov?

For best top four I'd say St. Louis with Pietrangelo-Parayko-Dunn-Bouwmeester.

Carolina's top five is stacked: Slavin, Faulk, Hamilton, Pesce, Gardiner. Wow. Columbus' group is really impressive too, with Jones, Werenski, Murray, Nuutivara, Savard. Ryan Murray looked like a legit top three defenseman last year when he was healthy. And then the Toronto top five I mentioned.

And then of course San Jose has the best top two.
