Preds fire Laviolette

Peter Laviolette was fired as coach of the Nashville Predators on Monday.

No replacement has been named.

Associate coach Kevin McCarthy was also fired.

This should have been done a long time ago. Worst ranked powerplay in the league last year, and it's improved this year with Duchene, but still a woeful 23rd. The penalty kill is 29th this year, and while a lot of that falls on goaltending, the coach has to be ultimately responsible for special teams overall, and they haven't been nearly as good as the level of talent on this team dictates they should be.

Laviolette has been a good coach in the league for a long time, and I'm sure he will continue to be, but something went wrong for him in Nashville.

Yeah, the writing was on the wall for him here with the Predators' slide into mediocrity.

I'd wager Jeremy Colliton is up next if Chicago doesn't turn things around in a hurry..
