2020 Offseason - Signings and Trades

Big summer for the Sens. Adding Murray, Dadonov and Galchenyuk. Should start to crawl out of the basement next season. I'm expecting a pick in the 6-12 range.
I haven't been able to keep track of everything else going on. Only just found out Montreal signed Toffoli. Still nothing on Hoffman eh? The Vancouver rumors seem to make too much sense. And looks like we're still waiting for Tampa to work out their cap situation - come on Sergachev to Ottawa!Last edited by matchesmalone; 10-29-2020, 04:17 AM. -
Yeah, a couple reclamation projects in Murray and Galchenyuk. Dadonov is older than I realized; he's 31 but I thought he was ~25, geez. Still like the signing (he's probably our leading goal scorer next season), I'm just surprised I was so off.
Man. Hoffman to Vancouver and I'm dropping money on them as a dark horse to win it all. If Quinn doesn't slump in his sophomore season and Holtby rebounds with Vancouver, they could go deep. I'm still bummed about Markstrom though 😥
Sergachev to Ottawa. Holy moly would that ever be something.
Thomas Chabot - Nikita Zaitsev
Mikhail Sergachev - Erik Gudbranson

Jake Sanderson - Jacob Bernard-Docker
Erik Brannstrom - Lassi ThomsonComment

OK, so I'll actually start by noting what I think are the significant trades that were made around the deadline. I'm looking at how teams should improve/get worse based on their rosters for most of last season compared to what they've got on tap for next season (which I'll also factor with their draft performance over the past 3 seasons, surely using an arbitrary method, lol). Therefore, I'm only noting significant trades that involve players who are still with the clubs who traded for them. No pure rentals.
The changes in the two weeks leading up to the deadline that I think are worth noting are:
Carolina + Skjei and Trocheck
Islanders + Pageau
Pittsburgh + Zucker
Tampa Bay + Coleman and Goodrow
Vegas + Lehner and Martinez
Washington + Dillon
----------------------------------------------
Chicago – Lehner
Florida – Trocheck
Los Angeles – Martinez
Minnesota – Zucker
New Jersey – Coleman
Ottawa – Pageau
Rangers – Skjei
San Jose – Goodrow and DillonComment

Oh man, you're really testing my memory. Off the top of my head just Vatanen went from New Jersey to Carolina, but I guess he still hasn't signed yet? I think you've got all the relevant ones as far as players who are signed.
Not sure if Vancouver can be considered dark horses after going to the semi-finals, especially if thy add Hoffman. You gotta think Demko is expected to be the guy after his run this fall. I took it that adding Holtby was more about veteran insurance/insulation. Not to say he might not step in and be lights out if Demko struggles early in the playoffs.
I was wondering if maybe adding Galchenyuk and Dadonov had something to do with making a push for Sergachev. He's RFA so if we trade for him we still have to worry about signing him long term, having a couple Russians around might help.👍 1Comment

Yeah, Vatanen was a big one but because he hasn’t signed yet I can’t count him as a trade, unless he does sign with the Canes.
Good point about Demko. He’s gotta be ready to take the starter role.
My only worry about signing Sergachev would be the need to protect him from Seattle. We should look at Ottawa’s expansion situation.Comment

Can't say I'm too worried about that. Not too many players on the current roster I'm worried about keeping. Brännström and the top prospects are still exempt.
I'd protect C. Brown, Tierney, L. Brown, White, Tkachuk, Batherson, Balcers, Chabot, Sergachev, Wolanin, Murray.👍 1Comment

Wow, just looked at things and Minnesota could be in a tough position. Spurgeon, Suter, and Brodin all have NMCs so the Wild have to protect them - which means they can't go with the 7F/3D model and would need to only keep 8 skaters instead of 10 if they want to protect Dumba. Problem with that is Parise and Zuccarello also have NMCs, so you're already at 6 with Dumba and the NMCs. I'd say they have no choice but to keep Fiala and Greenway with the other 2, so that leaves Sturm, Rask, Eriksson Ek, and Sokolov exposed. I guess that's not the worst position ever, but it seems like a sure bet that Seattle will get a good player from the Wild.Comment

OK so this is just trades, not signings? Going back to the trade deadline? What about Andreas Johnsson?👍 1Comment

I've been an avid CBJ follower the past couple years with Torts there. Saw a lot of Seth Jones interviews and I can say with some certainty he wants to go to a hockey market. Toronto would make too much sense but not sure how they'd make the money work. Vancouver would also make a lot of sense as he'd be the perfect partner for Quinn Hughes. Maybe Montreal with Weber out. Maybe original six? Chicago dumped Keith. You know Pittsburgh wants one last run.
I do expect Eichel to be moved. That situation doesn't seem tenable. Probably also Ristolainen. Best fits for Eichel would probably be NYR, NYI, LA,, Washington, Calgary... and Ottawa.😏👍 1Comment
