Chychrun's probably off the table - he's the second-highest paid defenseman on his CDCFL team and his contract was signed for higher than it is in real life.
Sergachev might have been available but for this repeated deep Tampa run. He won't be available at a discount. I should have left them off the list.
Ferraro - CDCFL Vegas - very likely available for less than the 11th
Girard - CDFCL Rangers - team is getting tight to the cap and probably need to make a play for goaltending. They might take a year of cheap Jordie Benn plus a late pick for an expiring Girard. It's all about how you frame it sometimes..
Hronek - CDCFL Leafs - this team seems near set, they probably aren't looking to make any changes, but he might be worth inquiring about.
Smith - CDCFL Predators - I'd say he's available from this team.
It isn't realistically probably that we can build the top-four D that we'd need to seriously compete next season. We just don't have the assets. But we can look to the near future;
Merkley and Poirier are on the same CDCFL team (Dallas) - availability likely on the low side as they're the team's best D prospects.
Bjornfot and Woo are on the same CFCFL team (Chicago) - availability is likely higher than the Dallas pair.
Lundkvist and Thomson are on the same CDCFL team (Anaheim) - availability likely much higher, team is loaded with young D (caveat is management clearly values D).
Johnson and Bernard-Docker are on the same CDCFL team (Edmonton) - availability likely even higher than the Chicago pair, possibly even the Anaheim pair.
If we can come away with some creative trades for Ferraro, Girard, and Smith and then one or, in a perfect world, both pairs from Edmonton and Anaheim, we could compete this season or next.

Bjugstad, Lazar, and Gagner should all be trade bait.
Getzlaf should be re-signed.
A top-nine of:
DeBrincat - Barkov - Hornqvist
Hughes - Getzlaf - Vrana
Vesey - Thompson - Wahlstrom
is more than decent and we can look for steals at forward later and also have a few prospects potentially breaking ground next season.

Maybe I'm being too harsh on the current D. Savard and Edmundon are actually a solid enough first pair, and Sean Walker is a sweet asset to have on the second pair too. Maybe there's a way to turn Bjugstad, Lazar, and Gagner (and picks/depth prospects) into one or both of Ferraro and Girard.
Then some tweaking can be done to try to wrangle one or two of the pairs of Bjornfot and Woo, Lundkvist and Thomson, and Johnson and Bernard-Docker.

I made an offer on Thornton. Agent said he's looking to go to a contender.
Just to keep you in the loop, I also got an offer of Byfield for 2021 first overall. I have a feeling I'm going to be more open to it than you would. Remember, I had Byfield ranked fourth and last of the four "phenom" tier prospects. I have Brandt Clarke as the only phenom in this draft, so they're very close for me.
