Big trade, Buffalo makes out real well, and at the same time, the deal could push St. Louis over the top.

Halak has a better playoff record than Miller. :/

True. But, I mean, 18/23 of those games came in one run where he was absolutely standing on his head. I'd say, for a deep playoff run, Ryan Miller would be more attractive as he's able to bring a high level of play, consistency and durability. I think Buffalo made out well, but as Josh said, this could push the Blues over the edge and help them win a Cup.

All in all, I think everyone won this trade. Buffalo was going to have to lose Ott/Miller anyways, and got a good return. A downgrade on both players but some good picks and prospects to make up for that.

Don't forget the year of contract on Stewart.

That's right. Stewart has a year left, I think (after this season). I think that works well for both teams as St. Louis shreds some salary to be able to re-sign Ott and Miller, while Buffalo gets some production that they'll be missing.

I don't think the Blues made a terrible mistake because they can afford to throw around assets because they're such a strong organisation right now, but I do feel they could have done better than this.

How deep does St. Louis have to go in the playoffs to make good on this trade?

I'm pulling for St. Louis to go all the way cos I hate every contender in the east but that's just me.

                Opinions?

I like St Louis to win it all too tbh.

I'd say at least the Conference finals would be the expectation, and also represents continual progress. In 2012 they were eliminated in The Conference quarterfinals, 2013 in the Conference seminfinals. Then again, just beating Los Angeles would probably satisfy most Blues fans; LA eliminated St. Louis in 2012 and 2013.

Also, if they get Miller re-signed, the deal's still a good one no matter how far they go. If Ott sticks around too, it's icing on the cake.

                        Re: Miller to the Blues

Thx for the warm welcome, boyos,

I'd have to agree about beating LA as the measuring stick for STL. It will be an interesting summer for them with Derek Roy and Steve Ott as UFAs. I hope they let Elliot go cos I'm eager to see Jake Allen and I think he'll be a sound backup for Miller. I also feel obliged to state the obvious: THEIR D CORPS IS STOOPID GOOD.

Agreed, St. Louis is a really exciting team right now. Doug Armstrong has been a great GM for them.

Wanted to keep this thread alive cos with each passing day St. Louis looks a little more poised to destroy everything in their path. They're red-hot at the right time, they give NOTHING to the opposition, and their key guys are contributing in big ways. It's not a fluke that they've overtaken the Ducks and Hawks. Hockey at its best.

It's certainly been good for Miller's fantasy stats :)
