Why is Luongo being shafted like this all the time? Am I missing something?

That sure is a lot of wasted money on the bench, if you ask me.

Because they can't move him anywhere and he also hasn't been great recently.

I was thinking today, a good move for Luongo and Vancouver would be to call the Islanders. Luongo would be an undisputed starter there. Nabokov is shaky at best now and is one groin pull away from retiring IMO.

      Re: Luongo

I dunno. I don't follow the Canucks enough to be able to tell how both have been playing. But if Eddie Lack is the hot hand coming into the game, and Luongo is struggling a little bit, it's not a bad move. This isn't an exhibition game, it's worth two points and the Canucks are in a dog-fight for a playoff spot. The NHL is a business here, and Lack may have been the better option to get the Canucks two points. I get the game is a little bigger than your average game, but it's still a game you have to win. You look at Brodeur starting for the Devils in their outdoor game against the Rangers. He got lit up and it cost the Devils the game, and what could be an important two points.

I can see why Luongo is upset. I don't really blame him. I can also see how this is starting another controversy. But at the same time, Torterella's job is to get his team the two points. He felt Lack gave them a better chance at this time than Luongo did. It's not like Torterella is saying Lack is a better goalie than Luongo...if he's the hot hand you might want to go with him.

Again, I don't know how well they've been playing or what's going on. I'm just giving a straight-view perspective here.

Canucks fans aren't overly pleased. I don't think Lack is much better even if he is a bit and Luongo has been their great goalie ever, he deserves more respect or should have been moved long ago.

100% agree! Aquilini should have paid the piper and bought him out if they really couldn't move him at all, which I actually highly doubt. I think someone in Vancouver has a bit of a vendetta against Luongo, and actually it's a terrible thing if so because he has been extremely professional about all of this for a very long time. Hell, he even came out and said it was his contract that was problematic.

I can't even imagine what he could have done to anyone to warrant such a "vendetta".
