Indeed. Still not sure what their approach is/will be at centre/defence. They're missing a bunch of pieces. Atleast they'll draft high in this mediocre 2014 class.

Yeah, Florida's in big trouble. Huberdeau has been extremely underwhelming in his sophomore year, and Barkov doesn't seem to be living up to going 2nd overall. Still early to tell obviously, and they've also got Bjugstad, but they literally have no veteran centers other than Scott freakin' Gomez... I guess that's why they added Brandon Pirri at the deadline, but even he's nowhere near a sure bet, as he's bounced around the AHL and NHL and has only seen 36 games through 4 seasons. Obviously he'll get more time in Florida than he did in Chicago though. Their d-corps is a mess too, like you say. Jovanovski was done at least two season ago, Kulikov, Gudbranson, and Olsen all need new contracts and haven't contributed very much at all (Kulikov's production is WAY down) and one of their only bright spots on the backend, Tom Gilbert, is set to become UFA this July.

The return of the rat has been put on hold indefinitely.

              From Wikipedia:

As the team prepared for its home opener against the Calgary Flames on October 8, 1995, a rat entered the dressing room, startling several players. Scott Mellanby reacted by shooting the rat across the locker room with his stick, killing it. He then went out and scored two goals in a 4–3 victory over the Flames, leading the Panthers to their first win of the season.[2] Vanbiesbrouck described the incident to reporters after the game, stating that while Mellanby failed to score a hat trick (three goals in one game), he did manage a "rat trick".[2]

During the next game, a fan threw a plastic rat onto the ice following a Panthers goal. The following game, a few more rats hit the ice.[1] Eventually, over 100 rats were tossed to the ice following Panthers goals,[3] as the Panthers emerged as the top team in the league by mid November.[2] Florida finished the regular season in third place in the Atlantic Division,[4] and qualified for the playoffs for the first time.[5]

Additionally, this Panthers' playoff appearance coincided with the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac. This led fans to believe that the Panthers would have great luck in the playoffs.

None too many following the Panthers hahaha

I feel like Brian Campbell could be making a difference on a stronger team. What a shame!

Campbell is such an up and down player. He had that amazing year when Buffalo traded him to the Sharks at the deadline, and then followed it up well in Chcago. Then he trailed off big time and only found his game again in his first year in Florida, and now of course has been trending down again ever since. He carries a $7M cap hit through the next two seasons, so I doubt he gets traded anytime within the next year.
