Do you think the Kings should keep Gaborik? I'm sure after his playoffs he can get a nice payday. The Kings have ~$13M in cap space for next year, with a healthy amount of roster players signed. The concern would be term, as pretty much their entire depth is a free agent at the end of next season.

Just going from what you wrote, I guess I'd try hard to get him on a one-year deal.

I'd assume Gaborik wants a multi-year deal where he makes $6MAAV+

He might also want to win another Cup while playing in California though.

That's true. I don't know, Gaborik just strikes me as a guy who would rather collect the big pay and term than a team-friendly contract for a Cup. But I think most players are like that.

Kings, Goborik close to agreement on new contract

Marian Gaborik could be staying with the defending Stanley Cup champions next season and beyond.

While nothing is done yet, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the Los Angeles Kings and the pending unrestricted free agent are close on a new contract that could get done over the next 48 hours.

Guy may get injured quite a bit, but it's because of how ferociously he plays. If LA can hold on to him, they're definitely contenders again.

The Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday signed forward Marian Gaborik to a seven-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com reports an average annual value of $4.9 million.

Wow, that is a sick deal if it's really under $5M!

Wow...I'll admit I was wrong. Gaborik left a lot of money on the table for a chance to be a main piece in a dynasty. Josh was right.

Saw the deal broken down on Sportscenter, the deal is front loaded but its still pretty reasonable. Let me see if they put it up on CapGeek
