  • NHL general managers to talk about overtime changes, video r

To figure out two things NHL general managers will be discussing at their annual March meeting, look no further than the controversial game the Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings played in mid-January.

First, the Red Wings scored the tying goal after officials missed the puck hitting the protective netting, then the Kings wound up losing in a shootout. That could affect playoff positioning in the Eastern and Western Conferences, and that's a concern for everyone.

No different than many fans, GMs hate to see a game end on an incorrect call and generally don't like to see one end in a shootout. So it's only natural that altering or extending overtime and expanding video review will be hot topics on the agenda for meetings Monday through Wednesday in Boca Raton, Fla.

I think they need to look at the grey area in kicked in goals as well

Interesting. Glad this is happening. I still think a "coach's challenge" is the right way to go.

Sorry if this has already been covered but I wanted to take a moment to mention that hybrid icing was a long time coming and IMO has been a great change for the league. On the other hand, haven't liked the new alignment from day one and there seem to be as many complaints as ever regarding divisions/playoff format/etc.

I agree with expanded video review and OT format change.

I don't really like hybrid icing at all. It should be no-touch like the rest of the world does it.

It's all about baby steps with the league. God forbid the players should be TOO safe. Where's that sarcasm smilie, Josh?

My only real problem with the alignment is the conferences not having an equal number of teams. Totally unfair to Eastern teams.

This is why we need a team in Seattle, Milwaukee, or KC!

I've always said, KC and Seattle would be the best bets.

I wonder about the viability of 2 teams in Missouri...

I won't hold my breath for KC, as cool as it would be.

With Seattle, I'm tired of the speculation and I really just wanna see some progress. The time is now coming off a Superbowl victory and with demand for the return of the Supersonics. So much super. Nintendo still owns the Seattle Mariners. Q: How super is that? A: Super Nintendo.

Keep overtime the way it is, just give the points out different.

2 points for a win in regulation or overtime(4 on 4)
1 point for a win in the shootout
                              0 points for a loss

I don't like the 3 points for a win in regulation because it will distance teams too much from teams who have more regulation losses. It will turn fans off quicker. It gives team an incentive to win during the team part of the competition, and if it does go to the shootout it should be worth less.

Also I think the player who scores the winning goal in the shootout should be rewarded with an official goal in the record books. You are scoring the goal that wins the game and it should be recognized.
