The Vancouver Canucks on Thursday fired coach John Tortorella and assistant coach Mike Sullivan.

"Today we are making an important change in the direction of our team," president of hockey operations Trevor Linden said. "On behalf of the entire organization, we extend our thanks to John, Mike and their families for their commitment to the Canucks and wish them the very best.

I'm a little surprised at this. I thought they'd at least give him another season...

I'm not, everyone was quick to blame since the Luongo fiasco if not earlier.

I'm not surprised either. The contrary would have surprised me more. They said they were gonna consult the players, I doubt they have marvelous things to say about him. And really, he's done enough damage in one season, management doesn't need to see one more season of this to make up their mind.

He's not a great coach. There's very few teams he can coach with his style, and even then he only lasts a couple years because the players get tired of him and his ways.
