  • Curtis Lazar

Curtis Lazar and the Edmonton Oil Kings are currently in Game 6 of the WHL Final. The score is tied 5-5 with 5 minutes left in the game, and the Oil Kings are looking to advance to the Memorial Cup. The Oil Kings were down 2-0 in the series before winning three straight.

Lazar has 21 points in 20 games and a +11 heading into Game 6. I caught two Oil Kings games this year, the WJC and some highlights and Lazar is an excellent prospect. He wears the 'C' in Edmonton and is a good leader - stands up for teammates, comes up in the clutch and is always working either offensively or defensively. Pretty pumped to see him in a Sens jersey one day - I believe he has 50-55 point potential and obviously has a lot you like in his game. The only question would be our future top six looks to be Turris - Zibanejad at C. The bottom six has Pageau and Smith who are both young. He might have to play wing to get into the top six.

The Oil Kings are up 2-1 vs Val-D'or. Lazar has one goal and set up the other.

              Re: Curtis Lazar

Lazar just ended the longest game in Memorial Cup history with a goal to put the Oil Kings in the Memorial Cup Final. One Sens prospect is guaranteed to win the Memorial Cup - Ben Harpur for the Storm or Lazar for the Oil Kings. I'd wager on the Storm who steam roll every opponent they play.

A couple on the Sportsnet panel believes Lazar can make the Sens out of camp next year. I'm not convinced of that as there's so little roster spots open, but there's no doubting he looks promising. His defensive game is very good, especially for his age. He also seems to come up in clutch moments in both this and the WJC last year.

The Oil Kings upset the Storm with a 6-3 win. Lazar had a solid game, he does so many little things right. He til Samuelsson was amazing today.
