  • OLD SITE - Improvements

The chat is now working again and is much improved. You may now change your username at any time. There is a Quick Reply button at the end of every topic that will open an area on the same screen to post in. Not all the features of the full editor are there, so just click Full Editor below the Quick Reply area in order to use those features.

    Re: Improvements

Oh boy.. If you remember, we were getting plagued with spambots in the early days of the forum, so I set up a security measure where new members must answer a question - who last won the Stanley Cup - before registering. WELL, it worked very well.. but I forgot to update it when the Kings won! :( I've just updated it now. Maybe we will start to see new users sign up!

          Re: Improvements

I made two minor cosmetic changes to the site..

The first was to change the way the "join date" appeared on posts. It bothered me that "pm" or "am" was running onto a second line. These two images will show you what I mean:

          OLD:

          NEW:

I also added something called a "favicon". You may or may not have noticed that when you had the site open, or bookmarked, it did not have one of those tiny little logos that some sites have. Well, now it does. In this image, for example, all my bookmarks have a logo except for NHL Numbers:

It's nothing fancy, but it beats an empty box. I've also added similar icons for iPhone, Android, and Windows bookmarks and home screen apps. I'll post the iPhone ones from my phone after this.

Any chance this software allows to go to newest post in a thread from the main forum? Rather than clicking onto the forum then the thread.

You mean a button beside the thread title that jumps straight to the newest post in that thread?

                      Re: Improvements

                      From the main forum page.

Most forums list the various subforums and it shows "Off-Topic Chat" last post by Jack. If you click the thread title it takes you to the newest posts. Here it's just last post by Jack so you actually have to go into the subforum and then click on the Off-Topic Chat thread.

Obviously it's just one extra click and I'm used to it but it is a bit awkward and I don't see it on any other sites I frequent.

Forgive me, I'm not trying to seem dense but I still don't completely understand. There is a tiny little arrow beside the text you're talking about that brings you to the most recent post in that forum, but I'm guessing you already know that and it isn't what you mean..

EDIT: Just went over to HFBoards and I think I see what you mean now.. They've also got a similar arrow button that takes you to the LATEST post in the thread, but clicking the thread title brings you to the first UNREAD post in the thread. Is that what you mean? If so, I'll try to get that to work.

EDIT 2: However, the "View new posts" and/or "View unread posts" at the top of the main forum page accomplish that quite well.. Is it possible those links have never caught your eye?

                          Re: Improvements

In the meantime, I have another change to announce! We can now embed NHL.com videos onto the site!! When posting, use "Post a reply" instead of "Quick Reply" and you'll see a little button under the subject title that simply says "nhl". Click that button and then enter the NHL.com video ID between the two sets of parentheses, and voila!

Here's a more detailed explanation to explain what I mean:

                          Example page with video on NHL.com: http://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/en/recap? ... l:topheads

Hover your mouse cursor over the video and a sharing bar slides down. Click the button highlighted in the next picture:

And finally, select and copy only the numbers after "playlist", like so:

Simply enter that NHL video ID between the sets of parentheses, and this is what you get:

                          [nhl:1b223x57]786297[/nhl:1b223x57]

                            Re: Improvements

On some links, the video ID is longer. For example, on this video: <iframe src="http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/embed?playlist=2014021070-257-h" frameborder="0" width="640" height="395"></iframe> the entire bolded and underlined part needed to be selected and copied..
