  • Report: New deals for Kane & Toews expected

Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews and right wing Patrick Kane are signed through next season, but a new contract for each could be signed as early as next week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday.

Toews and Kane each signed five-year contracts with Chicago on Dec. 3, 2009, and the Sun-Times reported they very well may agree to new deals on the same day again. Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman told the newspaper earlier this month that he would like to have both players signed by July 1.

Apparently they each want $12M per year, but are likely settling on a little north of $10M per year (per Bob McKenzie)

Personally, I think Toews is worth much more than Kane..

I'm the opposite. I think Toews is a great player, especially during the regular season. For whatever the reason, I find Kane can't get his game to the top level during the regular season. But once the playoffs come around, give my Kane every day. Oddly enough, Toews is the one with the Conn Smythe. But ever since the 2010 Finals, Toews has gone invisible a lot in the playoffs I find. Kane is the one you look to get the huge goals. The Cup winner in 2010, the 2013 Western Conference Final double OT winner (that was also a hat trick), the OT goal against Minnesota to put the Hawks into round three this year, the hat trick against Vancouver in 2010.

Also, I was sure that they would each take a discount (not that they're worth $10M anyways), and help form a dynasty. I guess not, though.

I think both are overpriced at $12M per.

Still, perhaps these two are the "new" benchmarks for years to come.

Hate to nitpick but I believe they both have a Conn Smythe.

I didn't even realize Kane won the Conn Smythe in 2013

Both got extended for 8 years

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each has agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks, the team announced Wednesday.

The contracts are worth $10.5 million each per season, according to multiple reports. At this point those contracts would have the highest average annual value in the NHL when they begin in 2015-16.

Toews and Kane were set to become unrestricted free agents after the 2014-15 season but now are under contract through 2022-23.

Good luck keeping a strong supporting cast around them.

Yeah, exactly. The Hawks couldn't let them walk...but this definitely handicaps them in the future.

Imagine if the cap goes down, or even just doesn't go up!
