Apparently a deal was in place to send Josh Gorges to Toronto and all they needed was Gorges' clearance, but he refused. Names I read was Lupul, Franson, Kadri that would have headed back to Montreal (one, not all)

Re: Gorges refuses to waive NTC for Toronto
Sort of odd that he would waive his NTC for Buffalo and not for Toronto. Apparently it was because of Montreal and Toronto's rivalry, which is crazy. I didn't think the players held rivalry in that light. I mean, we see MacArthur join Ottawa. We see Kaberle join Montreal. To each their own, I guess.
Originally posted by JoshFranson I could see, but Lupul or Kadri would have been overpayment for Gorges..Comment

Originally posted by JoshI don't get all the Lupul hate, to be honest. I think he's still a first-line left winger on most teams, and I'd love to have him on the Sens.Comment

I don't think I'm a Lupul hater, and I'd agree he's quite more valuable than Gorges, but I see him as more of a second liner on most teams, although certainly there are quite a few he could be first liner on.Comment

Re: Gorges refuses to waive NTC for Toronto
I honestly think its the element of surprise that made him say no to Toronto. Sure sounds like he wasn't expecting that one. I don't believe they (all of them) would refuse a deal with a rival team...specially if that was the only deal on the table. I don't doubt he was loyal to the Habs but once they told him they had no intention of keeping him, he had no choice to accept he would be playing elsewhere. And by now, he probably regrets saying no to the Toronto deal.....unless he preferes going to a market where he could probably blend in without being too bothered.Comment

Regardless of rivalry, Buffalo's the better fit for Gorges.Comment
