Apparently they're dangling Gorges, too. I found him to be a really good defensive defenseman a few years back, but the last couple of years he's really struggled. They seem to be able to get a pretty penny for him, too. Toronto is offering a decent amount but apparently he's refusing to go to Toronto. I've read Shanahan is really pursuing him to come to Toronto.
Personally, I wouldn't pursue it more if I was Toronto. I like the way Nashville looks at things - if the player doesn't want to be there, we don't want them either. By pretty much begging them to join your team, it embarrasses the team and the city (in my opinion). It was the same with Edmonton with Heatley..

Agreed on all counts. If they can get something good for Gorges, they should. And also agreed that teams should not pursue players who don't want to be there. The only exception I could see is if the player had a misconception about the city or team. I guess that, as a GM, I'd at least want to know why the player didn't want to be there and see if there was anything that could change.

Oh, for sure. Or if they were kind of on the fence and you thought you could convince them. But if they've nixed a deal and it's gone public (Spezza, Gorges) and the other team still pursues I just don't understand it. Nashville did it 100% right. A team NEED that you've needed the entire time the team has existed is available and you have a deal done and they nix the deal...that's the players loss. Don't embarrass yourself and the city by begging him to play.
