Here's a thread to discuss who we should sign, rumours of who could be a Senator, etc.

Apparently Benoit Pouliot is very interested in becoming a Senator and the Sens met with him today and the interest is mutual. I really like him as a player...15 goals and great possession numbers. I think he'd do well here.

Interesting. Pouliot had a lot of potential, but hasn't managed a 20-goal season yet. Right now I don't see him as more than a third liner, but I wonder if he's got it in him to be a second liner if given the ice time.

He would be an awesome replacement if we ditched Greening, sadly he'll probably be a Michalek replacement which is a lateral move if you're looking at the glass half-full.

I'm expecting the Sens to sign one more forward (or trade a defenseman for one). I have my eyes on Vrbata.

The internal budget is $57M. We already have ~$51M committed to a full roster, minus the signing of Lehner. That should take about $2-2.5M. That means we still have about ~$4M to spend.

Vrbata is out of the picture now.

Sources in Philadelphia are saying the Sens and Flyers are working on a deal that would send Lecavalier to Ottawa, but only if the Flyers retain some salary and add in an incentive for Ottawa to take him on. I like the idea, in theory, but with so many UFA's coming up next summer to re-sign, it could definitely affect our ability to sign them.

Well we still need money to make the floor, right? We're currently a touch below it.

I liked Vrbata but $5M is too much. I don't think Lecavalier brings anything to Ottawa unless we are eating his contract to get something else.

              Lecavalier to Ottawa????

Just heard this is a possibility, from Dregger's mouth on TSN.... slim chance..but possible none the less.. ..

Not sure what to think..actually what could he achieve in Ottawa, other than help the team reach the cap floor...

I wouldn't mind Lecavalier as a 2a center to insulate Zibanejad a bit and help the powerplay, but it all depends what we'd be giving up/ getting in addition and whether they're eating salary. I wouldn't much want him in a straight hockey trade, but if they're taking some of his salary and/or giving us back draft picks, that would be an OK move, still certainly not my top choice.

I wonder if when Murray said in his press conference that he had a trade in the works, whether this is what he was talking about. I'd be a little disappointed if it was, I was still expecting Berglund or Chris Stewart.

I want nothing to do with Lecavalier, his contract, or having ZBad play 3C. ZBad needs to play 2C for us, or be traded while he still has value, and right now is the perfect time to learn.

I would prefer them not sign anyone and if we suck so be it. We can finally get that top 5 pick to help us move forward.

                      Re: Senators Free Agency

I wouldn't touch Lecavalier with a ten foot pole...unless that pole had a nice draft pick or prospect to go along with it. It's clear the Flyers need to eat salary here...Lecavalier played winger last season, and if we can get something decent along with him, I'd do it.

I think there's little chance we'll get a top 5 pick, Alymer. I dunno...just me saying that. It would be cool, but a lot of things went very wrong last year. I wouldn't expect a repeat, but I wouldn't expect us to be as lucky/everything-going-right like what happened in the lockout-shortened season.

I predict if the rosters stays close to it is now, we'll finish around the same as we did last year or maybe a little bit lower.
