Backes - Stastny is a top-five 1-2 punch at C, after Crosby - Malkin, Tavares - Lee, Duchene - Mackinnon, and Carter - Kopitar. Backes - Stastny is better than Seguin - Spezza, Johansen - Dubinsky, Hertl - Pavelski, and Bergeron - Krejci, in my opinion.

Josh - do you still think Backes - Stastny is a top 5 duo?

In my opinion the Blues should have dealt for Spezza. The difference between Spezza and Stastny is huge. I've never really been a fan, and while Spezza is a wreck defensively, St Louis would definitely cover it up.

I dunno, some previous wingers are now playing at centre while other previous centres have shifted to wing. It was definitely stupid of me to consider Lee in the rankings at all. Backes - Stastny is still a great 1-2 in my opinion, but other underrated candidates include Getzlaf - Kesler, Pavelski - Couture, Benn - Seguin, and Bergeron - Krejci. I think Backes is an amazing player, successful at all aspects of the game. Very much like Ryan Getzlaf in that regard.
