Malaysian Airline Flight 17 shot down in Ukraine

Apparently it was shot down by a Ukrainian separatist/rebel group, which is pro-Russia.

Some say the missile was supplied by the Russian government in the last 48 hrs. Oh boy.

Either a long range radar-based surface to air missile (Russian military) or air to air fighter missile (Russian military). So why shoot down a civilian plane though?

They claim they thought it wasn't a passenger plane, but you'd have to be stupid to confuse a Boeing 777 with a smaller plane that has propellers and shit.

But why would they shoot down a civilian plane purposely? There's absolutely no strategic value to it. In fact, it's just going to turn the world's attention to the conflict again, which is opposite of Russia's interest..

On the topic of plane crashes/incidents, a Taiwan flight crashed and an Algerian flight also crashed.

Three commercial aviation incidents in a week is unheard of in this time period. Four in four months dating back to MH370. It's crazy. I don't think there were four last year, or the year before or before that.
