The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed defenceman Mark Borowiecki (BOHR-Vee-YHET-Skee) to a three-year contract extension. The deal has an average annual value of $1.1 million ($1.0 million in 2015-16, $1.1 million in 2016-17 and $1.2 million in 2017-18).

Best thing about this is I know how to pronounce his name properly now, lol. I was pronouncing it Boro-Wiki. -

a common mistake, that is actually as Polish a name as you can get. For some reason Polish names are considered to be Russian and it's assumed that something is Russian with 'ski' at the end. FALSE.Originally posted by Alfie11Comment

Really Josh? But don't you listen to games done by Dean Brown? ...Well, use to listen to....he'd always pronounce it like mentioned in the post.
One name I still don't know how to really pronounce is Michalek. There are a lot of different version, depending on who is doing the play by play.. lollComment

In Polish W usually has a V sound. Take the common Polish given name Wojtek which is actually pronounced "VOY-tek". Another example would be Wolodimir - equivalent to Vladimir.
The H in Michalek is silent - Micalek. At least that's how I've been saying it.Comment

Yeah I assume they took that from German.
I'm no expert in Czech but I'd imagine that the 'ch' is closer to a 'k' than a 'ch' in Michalek. But it might be 'h' as in 'horn'. K or H for sure.Comment
