  • Sens re-sign Bobby Ryan (7yrs, $7.25M)

The Ottawa Senators have called a news conference at Canadian Tire Centre for 9:15am et where the team will announce the signing of winger Bobby Ryan to a seven-year, $50.75 million contract extension.
Ryan scored 23 goals and added 25 assists in 70 games with the Senators last season, his first with the club.
The 27-year-old was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks in July of 2013 in exchange for Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen and a 2014 first-round pick, which the Ducks used to select forward Nick Ritchie, 10th overall.
Ryan has one year left on his current contract worth $5.1 million.

Was confident it would get done, but I didn't think this soon. Good job.

WOW! Was not expecting that, totally thought he'd go to free agency.

We did post this at the same time

As I said in the other thread, I was pretty confident he would get signed, but I thought it would go into ~December. Happy to have him staying!

Josh! What kind of dog-and-pony show are you running here?!? Two identical threads?

I'm mostly kidding. Welcome home Bobby Ryan.

I think it's slight overpayment, but the Sens had to do it, and he probably would have had a similar deal on the open market anyways.

Makes me lol at the Flyers fans who thought it was guaranteed he'd sign with them on July 1st.

Ryan has to prove that he can get back to 30 goal form. Last year, carrying a hernia, he had 21 goals. If he's fully recovered I am betting on big things for him this year.

Yeah, I'd say Ryan needs to prove he can be an elite player in Ottawa. He was until the injury, but he needs to prove it over a full season.

Bobby Ryan scores the OT winner, as Karlsson opens up the scoring.

I know it's just the Habs (who Ottawa seems to have a pretty easy time against) but pretty much a storybook ending for those two in this game. Also, shout out to Borocop for his fight against Subban
