  • Game 8: @CBJ, 7pm

    Sens 4-2-1
    CBJ 4-4-0

Cowen draws back into the lineup, plus some changes at forward
Blue Jackets put Bobrovsky onto the IR, very depleted roster

As I was saying with the season opening game, this is a should-win, especially with the Blue Jackets injuries. We need to take advantage of the opportunity and get a very important two points.

Not at home, so it'll be tricky to get Turris out against Johansen, which, for me, will be the key to the whole game. Every shift Johansen is on the ice without Turris, it feels like a goal just waiting to happen.

This is an important game. It's these kinds of games that define a season for the Sens. They always seem to come play against the really good teams, but they either hit the should-win games out of the park, or totally blow them.

1-1 after not even 7 minutes.

Sens took the game 5-2. A lot of players had really good games - MacArthur, Lehner, Karlsson, Turris.

Probably one of their better efforts this season. They were able to keep Johansen is close check...he picked up a point on a bit of an odd goal. And Josh, you're right. It's nice to see them pick up the two points in a game they really should have taken the two points in.

How did no one mention the hit on Anisimov? Any news on injuries/discipline? I hardly noticed the goal-scoring amidst the violence.

And, yes, all the key guys had good box score games.

I thought the call was fine, as the play was moving really fast, but the principle point of contact was definitely the chest and not the head. I don't think anything more will come of it..although I said the same thing when Gryba hit Eller.

Also, Lehner had one of the nicest secondary assists of the year on Karlssons goal

Gryba's hit was very similar to the one on Eller 2 years ago. There was no leap and the shoulder was squared to the chest. Anisimov has no business having his head down in that position - he's disposed of the puck but he's still only feet away from the play. I fear he will be suspended given he was suspended (IMO, wrongly) for Eller.

The Tropp hit on Borowiecki was much more serious - dude legit came from out of town to deliver that hit. Like a Chris Neil hit but on steroids.

I was very concerned about Ottawa in the first. 2 stupid fights for no reason, penalties all over the place...just begging Columbus to get into the game. I think MacLean gave them all the hairdryer in the intermission. Once they killed the major, I knew they were set.

I paid close attention to Cowen and Stone last night too. Stone had some good moments and overall look like he cared a bit more. Cowen's start was horriffic but he started to improve as the game went on, even getting one of his BB shots on net from the point. However he missed on that glorious chance also...you can't have everything.

Agreed. Also agree that Anisimov was more responsible than Gryba.

How about that heated Ottawa-Columbus rivalry now, eh? I'm gonna will this thing into existence.

Thankfully, the NHL said Gryba won't be suspended. The NHL got it wrong with the hit on Eller..I think most people would agree with that. I guess the NHL decided to suspend based on the result rather than the hit itself.

I'm sure Borowiecki thinks his role on this team is to play solid for the minutes he's in, and to stand up for teammates. Similar to Matt Carkner, except a little better at hockey and a worse fighter. The whole team this year is standing up for each other and showing you can't push the Sens around (not that they really get pushed around).

Yeah, Cowen had a decent game. He wasn't a liability.
