Toronto Maple Leafs center Daniel Winnik was taken off the Pepsi Center ice on a stretcher Thursday after landing on his head following a hit by Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda.
The hit took place at center ice just across the Avalanche blue line 45 seconds into the first period.
The Maple Leafs said on Twitter that Winnik is "alert and moving" and being examined by the team doctor.
