  • Elliott out - Brodeur invited on a tryout basis

With goalie Brian Elliott week-to-week because of a lower-body injury he sustained Tuesday, the St. Louis Blues have announced they will bring in Martin Brodeur on a tryout basis.

Elliott's injury will not require surgery, according to the Blues. With Elliott to be out for an undetermined time frame, St. Louis might turn to Brodeur to help rookie Jake Allen handle the workload.

Brodeur, 42, will join the Blues on Friday for a morning skate prior to their game against the Edmonton Oilers at Scottrade Center. He will continue to practice for at least a week before the team decides whether to offer him a contract.

The Blues also recalled goalie Jordan Binnington from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

This can't turn out any worse than the Ryan Miller experience. Safe bet for St. Louis to that extent.

Brodeur will definitely have something to prove. Won't be surprised if he makes the team and has a stellar performance.

I don't care if you're the best defensive team in the league, no one has faith in Elliot winning a cup as a starting goalie. STL was bound to reach out to a bona fide starter eventually. And this dude's play in 6(?) Stanley Cups. Josh may be on to something.

Report: Brodeur signs one year deal

According to numerous reports, the finishing touches are being put on a deal that will see the 42-year-old goaltender become a member of the St. Louis Blues on a one-year deal, the terms of which have not yet been disclosed. What is known, however, is that the deal does include performance bonuses.

Signing the contract on Tuesday signifies that Brodeur, who has been practicing with the team since Friday, Nov. 28, may play on the Blues upcoming road trip.

Yeah, it'll be weird to say the least. Happy for him though. The guy still wants to play, he thinks he can help, and obviously the Blues think so also. Good for him.

And btw, according to TSN, it would be a $700K deal + Bonuses. Low cost, high reward kind of risk..

It's funny how, at one point not long ago, there were many players expected to stay with the same team their entire career. Martin St. Louis, Daniel Alfredsson, Martin Brodeur, Jerome Iginla, Mike Modano
