  • Sens considering Bertuzzi

The Ottawa Senators are still considering giving Todd Bertuzzi one more shot at resuming a career in the NHL in the form of a professional tryout offer.

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Senators general manager Bryan Murray will make the final call on whether or not to sign Bertuzzi and if Murray does give the veteran winger the green light he could potentially start skating with the team’s AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, sometime next week.

On Monday, Garrioch reported that Bertuzzi’s agent reached out to the Senators among other teams with interest in returning to the NHL after sitting out the first half of the season.

      Re: Sens considering Bertuzzi

While some experience in Binghamton could be a good idea, Bertuzzi sucks, is old and slow, and is a dirtbag on the ice.

There's no way this could turn into anything more than an AHL stint, though. I mean, unless there's a million injuries. But even then, there's tons of young talent in Binghamton who are knocking on the door who deserve it more than Bertuzzi.

Struggling to figure out WHY we are even considering this?

And this is exactly why the whole thing makes no sense.

I really doubt there is any veracity to this story.

                Dreger reported it also, though.

I don't disagree. With either of your...assessments  But Garrioch definitely has his sources in the Sens organizations. I take everything he says with a grain of salt when it's about other teams, but he has inside knowledge with the Sens. And then Dreger reports it. Where there's smoke...

The PTO has been ended. Bertuzzi has opted out from it after sustaining a knee injury.
