  • Can we please trade Anderson?

His value is at its peak right now and if we can't trade him by the deadline we do it in the off season. I would rather sink or swim with Lehner and give proper minutes to see if he is the one. All Anderson is doing for us is keeping us in games we shouldn't be and winning more that we should. This team is missing top end cheap draft pics to build around. I would rather have a top 5-6 pick this season and next(if not the first overall) along with 2 high 2nd rounders to complete our retool/rebuild.

This team is nowhere near being a contender but in 3 seasons if we manage to do it Anderson will be 36.

Does anyone think this team can compete in 3 years? too much inexperience.

5 years seems to be a better time frame for giving this team a shot.

This could all change if Melnyk decides to spend but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Saw a proposal centred around Matt Dumba from Minnesota. If that was the return, I'd take it for sure. At this point Andy is just decreasing our draft odds with the wins he's stealing. Guy could take a team like Minnesota to the next level.

And Melnyk isn't going to spend. He keeps getting away with the "I'll spend when it's the right time" by which he means when the team is winning. Which of course, as the lowest spending team, we won't be!

Goalies can remain very good into their late thirties. At the least, I think Anderson progresses Lehner's development. I shudder at the thought of handing Lehner the #1 position right now...he's nowhere near ready.

It would all depend on the offer. If someone is blowing away the Sens with an offer, I say go for it. But you definitely risk turning Ottawa right back into a goalie graveyard.

Still not sold on trading Andy. Ottawa will never get a good enough return. I have no problems letting Lehner develop for another three years. The team rushed Lehner out of Bingo already and stunted his development. If the team trades Andy now, there will be zero reason to buy tickets for the next three years and that arena will empty out mighty fast (giving Melnyk another reason not to pay anyone).

Ottawa's problem isn't finishing in the middle of the pack, it's rushing prospects up and burning their ELCs. Cowen and Lehner particularly needed to spend a lot more time down there.

Correction: Ottawa's problem is Miser Melnyk.

Yeah but as Alf said, there is also a reasonable chance that Andy at 36 is still going to be a serviceable option in goal.

If you want to trade Anderson, cash in on the return and ALSO pick up a downgrade but cheaper 1B or backup type of goalie, then so be it but I personally don't see the point. Could we ask our good buddy Tim in Buffalo for one of his? Because in our system, next in line after Lehner is Hammond I think? Not NHL quality.

Please, let's not make the mistake Toronto and others have with any number of young goalies rushed to the frontline years before they were ready? Hell, we've already DONE it to an extent with Lehner. Remember he is still only 23 - no one should expect him to be ready and he clearly is not ready. Goalie, of all positions, takes the most experience and seasoning.

Re: Can we please trade Anderson?

                  One last thought:

Every legitimate contender at this point has their man (Rinne is hurt but the Preds have a huge cushion). And no one has forgotten what happened to St. Louis last year. So the market for goalies is pretty bad.

This summer, however, there will be one--ONE!!!--bona fide starter on the UFA market (it's Niemi). After that you've got Fasth, Enroth, Lindback, Neuvirth, Ramo, etc. And I'm not convinced SJ will let Niemi walk.

Point being, if--IF!--the Sens want to move Anderson, now is not the time. They would have to wait till the offseason.

They had their chance to move a goalie two years ago and they got Conacher. Lesson learned.
