Brodeur played 24 seasons for the New Jersey Devils.

What happened to the devils? Five years ago this team was the model organization of the league and Brodeur looked ready to ride into the sunset as a devil for life. Look at the team now. It's all pooey.

It seems to me like Brodeur thought he had a chance to be the guy in St. Louis. Elliott was hurt, they had no other real options (Allen is young and inexperienced), and Brodeur would have a chance to prove his worth and bring them on a playoff run. The Blues bring in Brodeur because he's a veteran and mentor for Elliott and Allen, and he can be a serviceable option when need be. Everything fell out of place at once, but Brodeur remained good friends with the Blues management and took a job with them when offered.

Very weird...seems like New Jersey would have been the place for Brodeur.

I wonder if, in effect, St Louis "bought" his services by allowing him to goaltend just that little bit longer...?

Martin Brodeur decided three was a crowd, so the St. Louis Blues goalie is hanging up his pads to join the NHL team’s front office in an executive role.

The 42-year-old recently took a leave of absence from the team to ponder his hockey future.

Brodeur arrived in St. Louis in late November as an injury fill-in for Brian Elliott, who returned to the lineup earlier this month. Jake Allen is the other Blues’ netminder.

Brodeur played 24 seasons for the New Jersey Devils.

The Blues have scheduled a news conference for Thursday.
