Karlsson with a sweet shot and the Sens go up 3-1. Michalek continues his hot streak.

Karlsson was a -13 in late December. Now, mid-February, he's a +2. He's also second in defenseman scoring, and two points back for #1.

14g 37p in 55gp in his rookie season. He fell in his draft year because of injury...what a steal for Ottawa. This guy has dominated every level - WHL, WJC, AHL and is having one hell of a rookie season. It's funny how he never got a ton of attention (aside from dominating the WJC) yet he makes it work from his first NHL game.

Seriously though, being a fan of this team is hard. It's been like:

Wow, I think this team could actually make the Playoffs!

Hmmm, come on guys, hang on to that Playoff spot!

Dammit, we're out of it now.

Ok, this team is hovering around mediocre, we need to string a few Ws together.

Ok, fuck this, tank mode on.

This is embarrassing. At least we'll draft high.

No, WTF, we are blowing our draft spot without a hope of the Playoffs.

OMG, we might actually make the Playoffs.

                      WHAT DO I HOPE FOR?!

                        Haha

Personally, I would never CHEER for my team to lose a game. Of course I realize it would probably be better for the Sens to lose every single game and have a better chance at the first overall pick. But I'll still cheer for my team to take a run at it. We really can't control anything. Ottawa has some special players...Karlsson, Ryan. No way am I cheering on these guys to lose while they're in their prime.

7 points back, a game in hand, and we play the Bruins twice. However unlikely it is, it's in the Sens hands.

Of course, you're right Brandon. The team needs a winning culture, not a losing one, and I'm never glad that they've lost. It just sucks being the kind of team that never seems to make it deep and also never seems to land that franchise draft pick.

Oh, I know what you mean. If people cheer for team to lose that's fine, it's their given right. I don't think it makes them any less of a fan. At the end of the day, cheering them on to lose doesn't actually help them lose so why not enjoy watching our players and what happens, happens, right?

I agree with you, though. It's going to be really tough to get top-end talent without picking high in the draft. Looking at the 2011 Bruins roster, though, they were able to. Aside from Seguin who wasn't close to the player he is now, they didn't draft any high picks on that team.

                              Hahaha yes! Thanks Josh.

my position on the current conversation is, if your team can't draft well enough without high picks, then you need to reconsider your management/scouting staff. There are NHL players and even elite NHL players scattered throughout the draft in every round it's just all about finding them.
